Welcome back to my series in which I am listing, week by week, topic by topic, every single Council's Own Girl Scout fun patch program that your Girl Scouts can earn from everywhere!
My Girl Scout troop enjoys earning Council's Own fun patches, as well as official badges and retired badges. I usually look for a fun patch that they can earn in addition to a badge whenever we're planning a big project or a trip, etc. This list is essentially just my own research written down for easy reference.
This is the complete master list of council-owned fun patches. I only included fun patch programs that fit the following criteria:
- Girl Scouts can earn this fun patch wherever they are. I did not include any fun patch programs that have site-specific criteria, unless I felt that those criteria would be easy to substitute and still maintain the point of the fun patch program. I also didn't include fun patch programs that require time-specific criteria that have already passed, such as patches programs designed for the 2020 COVID lockdowns. I noted in the description of each patch when substitutions would be required.
- Girl Scouts can obtain the council's requirements to earn this fun patch. I found several instances in which the council still sells a specific fun patch, but has deleted all the requirements from its website. If I couldn't find an easy link to those requirements from another site, I did not include the patch.
- Girl Scouts can obtain the physical fun patch. There were also several instances in which councils still host the requirements for a fun patch program, but no longer sell the patch (or, as in the case of a few GSAK patches, they have fewer than ten remaining). If it unlikely for a Girl Scout to be able to obtain the fun patch, I did not include it. The link to purchase each fun patch is in the caption for its graphic.
ART AND CRAFTS
Leatherworks, Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida. Learn about leatherworking and its history and culture.
CULTURE, DIVERSITY, AND EQUITY
All About Guide Dogs, Girl Scouts of Naussau County. Learn about the process of guide dog training and proper etiquette around guide dogs. This would pair well with the Girl Scout Senior Voice for Animals badge.
Aloha, Girl Scouts of Hawaii. Explore the history, culture, and geography of Hawaii. Order the printed guide book and patches directly from the GSOH council shop.
My two kids earned this fun patch together as part of a larger Hawaii unit study, and it encouraged them to delve into more cultural components of their study than they might have experienced without it.
American Sign Language, Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming. Learn the basics of ASL and about deaf culture.
Festival of Trees, Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama. Includes multicultural, service, and educational activities centered on Christmas. My Girl Scout troop loves to have a Christmas-themed meeting, and actually, this last year, they went ham and planned an entire Christmas-themed camping weekend! I modified the Outdoor Art badge to be Christmas-themed for them, but I LOVE the idea of a fun patch they can earn this year. It looks like this patch program has patches that change yearly, so the troop can make a tradition of earning it.
Guide Dog, Girl Scouts of San Diego. Learn about guide dogs and how to behave when they're present. This fun patch program pairs well with the Brownie Pets badge and the Senior Voice for Animals badge.
Mardi Gras, Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama. Learn about the history and culture of Mardi Gras. You will have to substitute a few site-specific activities, but Mardi Gras is so generally popular that it shouldn't be difficult. This is the perfect fun patch to fill a meeting during Mardi Gras!

This fun patch pairs well with the Cadette Finding Common Ground badge, the Senior Truth Seeker badge, and any of the wellness-themed Journeys like GIRLtopia, MEdia, etc.

This is a good fun patch program to fill a meeting during Black History Month or around Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, or in preparation for a field trip to a site important to Civil Rights history.
Dolores Huerta, Girl Scouts Heart of Central California. Learn about the life of Dolores Huerta, and the importance of fighting racism. My favorite program activities are the ones that expose Girl Scouts to strong female role models! This one is particularly special, because it was created in collaboration with Dolores Huerta, herself!

There are a couple of place-based requirements that you'll need to substitute, ideally with a field trip to an Underground Railroad location near you.

This is a GREAT fun patch program to help you give Girl Scouts a comprehensive biography of Juliette Gordon Low. It would pair well with Girl Scout Week or her birthday.
Mountain Mommas, Girl Scouts of Black Diamond Council. Learn about the Appalachian mountains and the cultural heritage of the Appalachian people through the lens of strong female role models like Dolly Parton and Barbara Kingsolver. This would be a really fun--and intense!!!--way to prepare for a trip to the region.

This is a great patch program for troops who've worn out all the Outdoor badges at their levels but still want to earn something during a camping trip, AND for troops for whom the Outdoor badges at their levels are too challenging. I always have a basic camping badge on hand for my newbie campers to earn!
Penguin, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. Camp or spend the day outdoors in below-freezing temperature.

Juliette Sews, Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama. Teaches Girl Scouts to sew! It is SO annoying that there isn't a current official Girl Scout Sewing badge. If your troop wants a badge they can wear on the front of their uniforms, look for a relevant retired badge--otherwise, this fun patch program will give them the appropriate skills.
Noodle Head, Girl Scouts of Citrus. Make a variety of Ramen dishes while learning about Ramen and Japanese culture. This fun patch program pairs well with any of the Cooking badges other than the Senior Locavore badge. Some activities in this fun patch program would make a fun troop cabin camping activity.

These year-long fun patch programs are so great at helping troop leaders come up with regular content for troop meetings. A state park nature center should have exhibits or animal encounters to further support this fun patch program.

Conservation Champions, Girl Scouts of West Central Florida. Complete science activities to explore issues in conservation. This fun patch pairs well with any of the Eco badges. Some activities are Florida-specific, but the guide book is so meaty that it shouldn't be a problem choosing different activities. This is a great fun patch program for troops with a high interest in science, or to give Girl Scouts more context for future Citizen Science TAPs.

This would be a great fun patch program to complete during hurricane season, when your troop can track and log live hurricanes.
Koalas, Girl Scouts of Alaska. Complete activities to learn more about koalas. This fun patch program pairs well with a field trip to a zoo where Girl Scouts can see koalas.
Maine Lobster, Girl Scouts of Maine. Learn about the Maine lobster and how to conserve its habitat. Summer Solstice, Girl Scouts of Alaska. Complete activities to learn about and celebrate the Summer Solstice. This would make a good troop meeting on or around the Summer Solstice, or Girl Scouts could earn it independently over the summer.
Sustainability, Girl Scouts of Central Texas. Try out different types of environmental science activities to earn this patch. Most of the activities are fairly quick and/or easy, so this fun patch program could make a good single-meeting plan to build context within one of the science-themed badges.

Year of Service, Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio. This is a great option for a troop in a council that doesn't have its own community service-based programming, or for a troop too young to earn the Community Service bars. I really like that it includes a wide variety of service projects--kids can find something they know they'll enjoy, and have encouragement to stretch themselves to try something new!

Since the program is a checklist of numerous activities, it would work well incorporated as a time-filler into meetings, or for Girl Scouts to complete independently.
