Baby Body Painted

For some reason, Sydney had it in her head that she really wanted to be painted like a cat. It was Friday night, Matt was working late, so I pumped some paint out of our ridiculously large jugs of tempera into the little containers of an egg carton, and let Sydney get painted like a cat:
A pink cat with blue spots, to be exact.

Oh, and a red stripe:
Willow goofed around and painted herself up a little bit to be a bat, but she's always taken more pleasure in fooling around with Sydney's looks than fooling around with her own (Please refer to the Unauthorized Haircut of Summer 2009), so under forty minutes or so of Willow's ministrations, Sydney was transformed from the pink-and-blue cat to some kind of purple mud monster:

Tempera really does wash out well, which is why it makes a good body paint. Red tends to stain in whatever capacity it's pigmented (has anybody ever vomited red Kool-aid onto your couch?), so Sydney does have a slight pink-ish tinge to her hair and body today, but not having any weddings to attend or anything, I think it's pretty cool.

Of course, I had a cloth diapering workshop to teach today at Barefoot Kids, so I did not indulge in any body painting. Tonight, however, after Matt gets home from the gym and the girls are asleep...

Wow! I guess that's one activity we'll never indulge in given that the boys and I all have some sort of sensory issues. ;)

If you add a touch of baby shampoo or body wash to the paint before attempting a full body painting it washes off so much cleaner. I'll leave off how I know so much about full body painting...

Ooh, smart! Will DEF do that next time...especially since Syd told me just this morning that she wants me to paint her like a parrot.

The word "tempera" lends itself very well to a poet who respects prosody and end-rhyme.

It's crap for iambic pentameter, however.

my kids would LOVE to do this!

We haven't done body painting again yet, so I haven't done it with the drop of baby shampoo in it, but I should admit that, as it's winter here, Sydney's hair must be on the dry side, and I think it must have sucked up the tempera a bit...it's still pink.

Doesn't bother me at all, however. Pink hair suits her.
